Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.4 Futures Rewritten Unveiled

During a new Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, producer Naoki Yoshida unveiled the upcoming Patch 5.4 update to Final Fantasy XIV. The update is titled Futures Rewritten and is set to launch in early December 2020. The reveal came with news that the PlayStation 4 version of the game will be supported on PlayStation 5. Players on PlayStation 5 will be able to access the in-game PS4 Pro display settings and benefit from improved load times.

Futures Rewritten will add to the Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers expansion with new main story content following on from the events of the previous Reflections in Crystal update. It will also add the third chapter in the eight-player Eden raid series, Eden’s Promise, which includes Normal and Savage difficulty encounters, as well as the next chapter in The Sorrow of Werlyt questline and a Trial against Emerald Weapon.

Other new content includes the new Matoya’s Relict dungeon, plus a new Unreal Trial, which pits players against a super-powered version of of previous Trial. The Blue Mage limited job will get new content, including an increased level cap, new abilities to learn, and new equipment, while a new Explorer Mode will also let players explore previously-completed dungeons for the purposes of taking screenshots, with players will be able to use their mounts in Explorer Mode. Performance actions are being updated to include the violin, the Triple Triad card game is also getting rule and UI adjustments alongside limited-time tournaments, the fourth and final stage of the Ishard Restoration will begin, and new content is being added to the Save the Queen questline.

Naoki Yoshida also announced that Patch 5.35 will launch on October 13, 2020. The patch will add further Save the Queen content, including the large-scale encounter in the Bozjan Southern Front where up to 72 players join together to fight with the Bozjan Resistance against the IVth Imperial Legion.

Shadowbringers is the third expansion to Final Fantasy XIV and launched for PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4 in 2019. Shadowbringers won multiple awards in RPGamer’s Best of 2019 Awards, including Game of the Year, with those interested in reading more about the expansion able to check out RPGamer’s review. Reviews are also available for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn as well as the previous Heavensward and Stormblood expansions. Final Fantasy XIV’s Free Trial version was recently expanded to include the Heavensward expansion. New players can freely level up to 60 and access all quests up until the end of the Heavensward patch series (Patch 3.56).
